Exclude Folders from Flow Launcher Search Results

File search · Published October 30, 2026 · Publisher: flowlauncher.app

At a glance

Explorer’s excluded-path settings can hide selected directories from Flow Launcher’s indexed search results. This changes result visibility; it does not delete files, encrypt them, or prevent other programs from finding them. Configure exclusions with a known test file so you can confirm their scope.

Steps to follow

  1. Open Explorer settings in Flow and find the Index Search Excluded Paths section.
  2. Add the specific directory you want excluded. Prefer a narrow working-folder path over an entire drive unless excluding that drive is intentional.
  3. Search for a uniquely named file inside the excluded directory. Also search for a control file outside it.
  4. Remove the exclusion temporarily if results become too broad or too restrictive, then repeat the same two queries.

Check the result

The inside-folder result should be suppressed while the outside-folder control remains available. Check the returned path when similarly named files exist elsewhere.

Limits and common pitfalls

An exclusion in Flow does not remove a file from Windows Search, Everything, backups, or another user’s access. Use operating-system permissions or encryption for access control.

Make the check repeatable

Keep a short reason beside each excluded directory in your own configuration notes: build output, duplicate archive, temporary downloads, or a personal folder. This helps explain missing results months later and makes the list easier to maintain after drive letters or directory names change.

Questions and answers

Can an excluded folder still open when I type its full path?

Indexed-result filtering and direct path navigation are different actions. Test the behavior you intend to restrict rather than assuming one setting covers both.
