Find and Launch Apps with Flow Launcher

File search · Published October 30, 2026 · Publisher: flowlauncher.app

At a glance

The Program plugin supplies application results in Flow Launcher. Search by an app’s known name first, then try shorter words or acronyms. Keep app launching separate from Explorer filename searches so that you can configure and troubleshoot the correct plugin.

Steps to follow

  1. Confirm the application opens from its normal Windows shortcut. This verifies that the program itself is installed and functional.
  2. Open Flow Settings and make sure Program is enabled. Check whether it uses a dedicated action keyword or participates in global search.
  3. Search the full visible app name, then a distinctive part of it. Inspect the result’s location if multiple versions appear.
  4. Open the result and verify the expected app starts. For a custom portable app, inspect Program’s configured sources rather than assuming every executable on disk is indexed.

Check the result

The selected result launches the intended installed copy. A second similarly named result should be checked by path before removing or hiding it.

Limits and common pitfalls

Finding an EXE as a file and finding an app through Program are not identical. Differences in shortcuts or configured sources can explain different results.

Make the check repeatable

Start with one ordinary application before tuning fuzzy matching. A full-name query provides a clearer baseline than a two-letter abbreviation that can match many tools. Record the returned executable path when reporting duplicate or outdated results.

Questions and answers

Will newly installed apps appear immediately?

The project documents automatic detection for Program changes, but allow time and use a reload when diagnosing a stale result.
